How To Find Your Dream Home In COVID-19

Buying a home in COVID-19 times takes a patient and a plan.  Your plan is to have your financing options in line and prepared with your Lender.  Your Lender should be reviewing the numbers with you and then ensure that your real estate agent knows what your plan is.  Once the numbers are understood, then you can start shopping for your new home.

Your real estate agent will help you get into the nitty-gritty of an online listing.  They will help you create a portal that is from the MLS directly and most likely you will be conducting your own online searches.  As you view pictures of homes online or from a link from your agent, here are some red flags to look for as you click through pictures that may not always show the true details of the property:

  • Are there more photos of the exterior than the interior? The inside might need work.
  • Closed curtains and blinds in a photo are usually hiding a bad view.
  • If a picture of a bathroom focuses on a sink, it can mean the bathroom is painfully small.
  • If photos look stretched out, the seller or agent is trying to make a room appear bigger.
  • Some listing terms are red flags as well. A “fixer-upper” can mean a great investment or a money pit, and “cozy” generally means the home is small.

You can also ask your real estate agent to preview the home for you prior to you visiting it yourself.  They can perform a Facetime or DUO Video conference with you and talk about the home.  You should be asking questions about the quality of the construction of the home and visual appearance, as sometimes these items are not caught on video.

Your real estate agent will want you to see the home on your own and will do all that they can to arrange that for you.  Having your financing ready to go is imperative for you, not only for previewing a home, it is also extremely important for you to win the bid in the event you want to make an offer.
