Google Mobile Update: An Algorithms Update You Should Know About

Google Mobile UpdateGoogle will be using mobile friendly as a ranking factor starting
April 21, 2015. Google will naturally be moving mobile friendly sites to the top of the list.

What’s the new algorithm update about? It will use mobile-friendliness as a ranking signal — if your website isn’t mobile-friendly, you could get dinged in
the SERPs (search engine results page) when someone is searching Google using a mobile device.

Is Your Website Mobile-Friendly?

Google has created a tool to help you figure out if your website is mobile friendly and if your website will pass their newest update.

Karen Jones shares about Google update

Enter your website’s URL into Google’s Mobile-Friendly Test and it will let you know if you’ve got a mobile-friendly page on your hands. If the website you entered passes Google’s test, you will see a green banner indicating the website is mobile-friendly. If the website does not pass, Google will let you know the page is not mobile-friendly and give some reasons why.

If you have WordPress site this is an easy fix but it does involve a little bit of time. You have three options if you have a WordPress website in order to make it mobile friendly: you can change the theme to a mobile friendly theme or template; you could install the jet pack with a dedicated plug-in designed to make your existing site mobile friendly or you can install the Duda Mobile Plugin, which will make your site mobile-friendly.

Now, if you don’t have a WordPress website you’ll want to talk with your website provider or host in order to move your site to a more mobile friendly layouts. Many of these large website providers are actually moving to WordPress and charging hundreds if not thousands of dollars to do so. This might be the best time to move over to a WordPress site on your own.

Did you know that if you choose to go with a WordPress site through your existing website provider you are still under their thumb and don’t have full ownership of your sites. I do promote that you take ownership of your domain and of your website files, so this might be a good time to move everything over to your own WordPress site and have it hosted on your own server or through a server such as Go Daddy

You might own the website or think you do but there are three major components to a website:

  • the domain (www)
  • the site itself (content and design)
  • and the hosting (where the information resides in the Interwebs)

Consider it this way: the domain is the address of the property, the website is the house itself, and the hosting is the land on which the house sits. You have to have all three working together in order to create the right online presence and you need to own all three to have true ownership.

WordPress is easy to use once you understand the basics and you can learn the basics with one-on-one coaching with Marketing Coach, Karen Jones or learn “d0-it-yourself” DYI style with

So…..Be sure you get your site updated prior to the Google update, which is April 21, 2015.
