Annual Credit Reports

photo AnnualCredtiReports.jpgI thought you’d find the following information about AnnualCreditReport.com of particular interest. It is the official website established through the Fair Credit Reporting Act mandating that the three credit reporting repositories allow consumers free access to their credit reports once every 12 months. I accentuate the word “free” here because there are several websites with similar names, such as “FreeCreditReport.com,” which actually come with a price.

I highly recommend that you take advantage of your no-cost report every year. Remember these tips:

  1. Get a report from all three repositories. They are: Experian, Equifax, and Transunion.
  2. As soon as you’ve accessed each of the reports, print or save a copy. If you close the window with the report open, you’ll have to wait one year to return to that bureau’s report.
  3. Review your reports carefully and follow up on any errors. You’ll find instructions on the reports.
  4. You may purchase your “credit score” as an option. If you opt for this, keep in mind these scores can differ from those typically used by creditors. No need to get a score, as you just want to ensure what is being reported is accurate.

Feel free to pass this message on to your family, friends and colleagues, as ensuring that the information on your credit report is accurate is important.
